Free GeoTIFF Viewer: Open Orthomosaics and DSMs in Your Browser

Drop in a GeoTIFF, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG), orthomosaic or elevation model. It opens right here, on your device, with nothing to install and no account.

What it opens, and its limits

Formats and limits of the free GeoTIFF viewer
ItemIn this viewer
FilesGeoTIFF (.tif or .tiff), including BigTIFF and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG).
ProductsOrthomosaics (3 or more bands) in color. DSMs and DTMs (1 band) with a color ramp, a legend and the value under the cursor; no-data areas stay clear.
CompressionNone, LZW, Deflate, PackBits, JPEG, Zstandard and WebP. Other compressions show a message.
Large filesA COG opens at any size and reads only what is on screen. A GeoTIFF over 100 megapixels with no overviews opens at full resolution only, around the center. Tiles or strips over 256 MB each cannot be read.
CoordinatesShown in the file's own coordinate system, with a scale bar, a north arrow and the latitude and longitude under the cursor, all worked out on your device. If the coordinate system is not recognized, the file opens in pixel coordinates.
Background mapNone. The file is shown on a plain background, so nothing about the area you are viewing is requested from a map service.
Import checkA quick check of the rules DataDelivery applies when you import the file. The final check runs when you import.

Share it with a client

This viewer is for you. To deliver the map to a client, put it in DataDelivery. Import a finished orthomosaic, DSM or DTM (GeoTIFF) into a DataDelivery job. Each file is checked automatically, then it appears in the Products folder ready to view, measure and share.

Orthomosaics open on an interactive map in the browser: pan, zoom, swap the basemap and fade the overlay. Send a no-login link, including on the Free plan: anyone with it can view the job's files, maps and imagery in a browser, with no account and nothing to install.

The import checks: an orthomosaic needs at least 3 bands and a coordinate system that converts to WGS84. A DSM or DTM needs a single elevation band and a standard EPSG code. Files that fail are rejected with the reason. The quick check under the viewer above runs the same rules in your browser. More on sharing orthomosaics with clients and on importing files from your mapping software.

Questions about the GeoTIFF viewer

Is my file uploaded?

No. Your browser opens the file on your device and reads only the parts it needs to draw the view. The file never leaves your device. The page loads Google Analytics, which records anonymous events such as that a file was opened and its size range. It never receives the file, its name, location or contents.

What is the largest GeoTIFF I can open?

There is no fixed size limit; what matters is how the file is stored. A Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) opens in moments at any size, because the viewer reads only the overview and the tiles in view. A GeoTIFF over 100 megapixels with no overviews opens at full resolution only, around the center, and reading it takes longer. A file whose tiles or strips are over 256 MB each cannot be read in a browser.

Why is my GeoTIFF slow to open?

It most likely has no overviews, so every view has to be read from the full-resolution image. Save it as a Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG), or add overviews to it, in your mapping or GIS software. A COG carries smaller copies of the image, so the viewer reads only what fits on screen.

What does "Coordinate system not recognized" mean?

The file has no coordinate system this page can read, or one it cannot convert to latitude and longitude. The image is shown in pixel coordinates instead, without a scale bar or north arrow. Before you import it into DataDelivery, export it again with a standard EPSG coordinate system.

Can I measure on the map here?

Not here. This viewer is for looking at your file. In DataDelivery you can measure distance, area and perimeter on the map over your orthomosaic, and save measurements as named layers. Figures are approximate.
